On September 17th, 1787, the US Constitution was adopted by the Philadelphia convention. Delegates had spent months gathering together in Philadelphia, creating this document, and it was finally recognized under the committee. Of course, this was a wonderful thing for our country because the United States could finally be under an effective government that made each individual state form under a common identity. It is the system of government we still have today and will probably have for generations to come. So this day in 1787 was an important day!
The adoption of this document affected so many at the time, and still affects people to this day. As I mentioned before, it affected everyone living in the US at the time by making their government much better as far as political production goes. It influenced the creation of other governments in other countries, where they adopted their own version of the Constitution. And of course, it influences people in the United States today because, again, our national government still runs under the Constitution.
As an American citizen, I appreciate this event. The Constitution is the reason I, along with all of you, get to express so many different freedoms. Our nation was built upon these freedoms, and to ensure those freedoms remained throughout time, they had to be included in the governmental document. These freedoms protect us from government tyranny. So no matter who leads America, these rights are forever guaranteed. So even though our government is by no means perfect anymore, I believe it's better than living under some dictatorship where the government doesn't acknowledge any individual liberties.
