Create Your Own Adventure

Writing Prompts:
1. What are you living for? Think about what your are striving for in life, and describe what you feel is the purpose for your life.
2.What is your favorite Harry Potter book? If you have not read them, what is your favorite movie? If you have neither read nor seen Harry Potter (first of all, WHAT??) but what is your favorite book? After you have answered one of those, why do you think it is your favorite?
3. Why do you think people enjoy music so much? Explain your thoughts with experience from your own life.

I am going to respond to the third prompt.

I recently had the opportunity to meet an extraordinary musician. Ben Sollee. It is hard to express in words how amazing he is. He is able to maintain his music career and his family all while staying in his home state, Kentucky. He taught me a lot during the 2 hour workshop that was helpful in many areas, not just music. One of those things is the answer to the main question of this prompt.

Sound. It's the only sense connected directly to our nervous system. This means that we respond almost instantaneously to it. Touch is a bit different. Ben used the example of touching a heated stove. When we touch it, there are many layers of communication in our body before we move our hand from the object that is burning our flesh. Sound can give us instant emotions through out nerves. To show us this, Ben thought it would be clever to have us all close our eyes and play some quiet, soothing music. AH. That was his scream that practically made me fall out of my seat. He said it was so fascinating to watch us all react at the very instant the sound came from his mouth (and cello). People enjoy music so much because our body react so strongly towards sound, which is why when we hear our favorite song come on the radio, we get a sudden rush of excitement. Music naturally causes different emotions based on the type of music and the person listening.
