BOO- Braeden Bowen

My zombie survival plan is pretty simple; it consists of several repeated steps. If the outbreak is viral, the first step is to avoid human contact. Urban centers and other highly-populated zones are a no-go. The CDC and military will no doubt be taking measures to prevent further spread but will have near constant contact with contaminants, so most governmental support during the crisis is also out of the question.

The next thing I'd do is take what I could and run. Most people will do one of four things: stay at home with their family, incite anarchy, go full Rick Grimes, or run like hell. I would do none of the above; I'd go to a town like Berea, Kentucky. Berea is almost completely self-sufficient in water, energy, and food, and could thus remain relatively intact (excluding infection, which could take weeks to spread worldwide after the initial case). Furthermore, Berea has a relatively small population and large stores like Costco and Sam's Club for food and clothes.

After a week or two, I'd move on. By that time, mass panic and hysteria would have mostly subsided and the interstates would be clear; of course, if the zombie outbreak was absolute and world-ending, getting gas could be a major problem. Good thing I live in horse country.

Next, I'd head for a region somewhere just west the Hudson Bay in northeastern Canada, which is relatively uninhabited and full of natural resources, including lumber and freshwater lakes. Finding a pre-build structure would be optimal, but I could create my own if it became necessary. An island like Strawberry Island in Manitoba's South Indian Lake would be ideal, as the water surroundings would be a further layer of protection.

Assuming I could stockpile enough resources for several years, I should be able to survive; if the zombie apocalypse is anything like the Black Death, the virus should tear through the population in three to four years. And then, after that, I go back into society.... Wait. What now?

NOTE: I've thought about this so much because I wrote an episode of Entity about it (Season 2, episode 7, "The Ragnarok Nine").
