iWrite - Evan Hays

Technology has and is a source of major contention in my life, I love hiking in the Red River Gorge, and I consider myself widely self sufficient, but without a GPS getting to the park in the first place would be quite a task. Technology is a huge source of information, and in some respect its more useful than conventional education. You can move at your own pace, you can go as deep as you want into a certain field, and you are always a click away from the next topic. This doesn't mean that all the information is useful though. Many times research for a History Club blog turns into "HBO's Rome: The Making Of" in a few fatal keyboard clicks. In another respect, technology adds a degree of separation between a person and their audience. Its easy to well at a person over tweet than in person because over tweet it doesn't matter if they are 6'4" and 180 pounds. Its not good to fight if at all possible, but if this generation has an issue the predetermined response is to hide behind texts or social media. We aren't as tough or scrappy as the ods and rockers from the 70s or the greasers and soc's from the 50s. We have our group, and we stay there only glancing at the world from the safety of a phone.
