Katie Demetriades Assignment 15: Covergirl

I've completed all the blogs for this semester, but I'll go ahead and do this one!

Here was another one of my prompts from Assignment 6:
As juniors, we're all at the age where we can start driving, whether it be with a 21 year old licensed driver or by yourself. So what are your opinions on driving? Do you love it? Hate it? Do you find it to be easy or hard? Are you more worried about your own driving or the drivers around you? Do you think the roads aren't safe enough or too safe?

I thought of this prompt because at the time I was upset that I had failed my driver's test. There are probably a lot of factors that contributed to my failure, but ultimately I failed because I was nervous. Not to mention the guy that I got was a COMPLETE jerk who didn't even respond when I asked, "Am I turning here?" Clearly I'm still bitter, but moving on! I took the test again two weeks later and I passed because Mark, my new best friend, calmed me down by actually speaking to me and gave me constructive criticism in a tactful way. Let's just say if all people were like Mark, the world would be a better place.

Now that I drive by myself almost every day, it's not as exciting. Before, it was a privilege, but now it's a responsibility. Sometimes it's stressful, and other times, it's relaxing. It just depends on the weather and how many people are on the road. However, I think driving has gotten easier since I've been driving by myself. When I had to drive with someone, they always managed to stress me out by yelling (when it wasn't necessary). Now that I don't have to deal with that, things are a lot better.

I'm much more worried about the people around me. I know what my car and I are capable of, but I can't say the same thing about everyone else. I don't know how hard they have to hit their brakes to stop. I don't know if they're talking on the phone/texting and they're not paying attention. So far I've been lucky enough to avoid those bad situations. I just wish all drivers were at least somewhat competent. I know most of them are, but there's a bad seed on the road somewhere. That being said, I feel that the roads are pretty safe. I think most people understand the dangers of distracted driving and choose not to participate for their own safety. And those that don't understand will one day learn those dangers when something bad comes from it.
